Would it be wise to keep the dark brown trim around the outside of the door to match the threshold and help with water issues, or should I remove it before stripping and staining the door?

I feel like I’m going to lose my mind trying to strip and stain this door! What do you think about keeping the dark brown trim around the edges? I think it would go nicely with the painted threshold to help prevent water damage.
