Will the No Lip planks be secure enough in the middle of the floor surrounded by immovable connections and clicklocking on the long side?

So, the grey click-lock material with the “Big Lip” connects securely with the “Little Lip” for a super strong bond that doesn’t budge in any direction.
The “Head End” and “Ass End” are now snugly joined together. All good so far!
But I noticed that many of the planks don’t have a lip on the “Ass End,” only on the long side for locking in place. Do you think that’s enough to keep them secure?
Are the Big Lip / Little Lip connections just for the edges of the floor by the walls?
And the planks with “No Lip” are meant for the middle of the floor, right? They should stay put because they’re surrounded by stable connections and locked in on the long side. Or am I missing something about the “No Lip” planks?
If one end of the boards looks the same, the other end should too. I’ve never encountered boards with different lips on each side before. In my opinion, these are faulty.
Save the planks without lips for either the beginning or end of a row, depending on where the missing lip is located.
That doesn’t seem correct to me. I’ve only completed about 6 floors so far, but every box I’ve used had pieces that were all the same. Have you checked the instructions for any hints? Keep us posted on what you discover.
The ones without lips are damaged
You might assume so, but there are no rough edges on the bottom whatsoever. It’s just a completely smooth edge.
I have never come across flooring that was lacking this particular ‘lip.’
I think they are made too cheaply. When I receive samples, I intentionally break off the lips to see how strong the planks are. They break easily like this. Can you tell me where you purchased these or what brand and model they are?
Isn’t it funny how construction terms can sound so suggestive? Like with the male plumbing pipes fitting into the female ones… and now the head end going into the ass end for flooring? Haha, men definitely came up with these terms. If it were up to a woman, it would probably be more like ‘choo choo’ for the male/head fittings and ‘tunnel’ for the female/ass end fittings… or something cute like that! 😄
Hey Stewart, when it comes to flooring, I’ve usually heard it referred to as tongue and groove, even for laminate and vinyl plank.
Hey Stewart, did you know that a 4″ roller is sometimes jokingly referred to as the tip of the iceberg? And have you heard of adjusting a slight gap by color?
I promise not to tell anyone!
I was a big fan of the Go Gos
Can you check the instruction guide for me?
The sections highlighted in yellow seem to be damaged along with the entire shorter side.
Guide isn’t very helpful. It’s unclear, concise, and badly translated.
If I were you, Jacobo, I would definitely try to return it for a refund. Just being honest.
A case and buster fell from someone’s lips.
. Hmm, I’m not so sure about that. The boxes are in perfect condition. I don’t see any broken pieces inside. The underside of the NoLip looks really smooth.
There should not be any planks without lips in the box.
How many boxes do you have and are they all missing the lip? I would guess someone removed the lip and returned them after having extras. There’s no way they were originally like that. You can start with the pieces without lips against the wall, but you’ll end up wasting a lot because the final piece on one row is usually the first piece on the next row since there is already no lip. If that makes sense. I would return the boxes to where you purchased them from.
That’s pretty odd. The only reason that would happen is if you have to cut off a piece at the end. Were they super cheap? The solution is to just use them for the ends, but that might affect how many pieces you can actually use. If you can, I would suggest returning them and trying a different brand.
You can glue the short sides if they are defective or damaged, just make sure to avoid getting any glue on the long edge so it can still slide. And if you need to rip a piece more than half for pieces against the wall, go ahead and glue the long edge as well.
They are not working properly.
What is the brand of this product and where was it obtained from?
That sounds like a poorly made product. Cheap laminate flooring often ends up being a waste of time and money. I have witnessed locking components breaking during installation. You really do get what you pay for with this disposable flooring trend.
Are they disconnected? Or is it just a tongue and groove lock with a combination of top lock (gently tap on the top to secure downward)
It could be the same flooring and production but just a different locking mechanism that the company switched to. You have the same floor but with two different manufacturing dates.
If it’s just a few, I’d suggest using the end without lips against a wall. If there are too many, you might want to exchange them and try not to crack up when you tell the salesperson you need ones with lips.
