Will 1/4 inch crown staples be adequate for securing 12 inch plywood underlayment for sheet vinyl installation, or should I be using wider staples?

Hey, so I’m working on installing some sheet vinyl and I need to put down a 1/2 inch plywood underlayment for height reasons. My staple gun uses 1/4 inch crown staples – do you think these will be okay for the 1/2 inch plywood? I’m pretty sure it’ll be fine, but I keep overthinking it. 😅

I’d fasten it securely.

It won’t reach the other side. If you’re installing 1/2 inch, the material used must exceed that to reach the opposite end.

They’re good. The size matters more.

Using a 1/4 inch crown should work well for this project.

‘t forget the glue! Staples help apply pressure for the glue to set, but that’s about it. Using 1/4 inch staples is sufficient, just be generous with the amount.

Sure, that should be enough. You’ll want to make sure the length is long enough without going all the way through the subfloor. It’s important to staple every 3 inches along the edges of the plywood and every 6 inches in the middle. I find it helpful to mark my staple gun at those measurements for spacing.

Glue it and staple it
