Why would the power wires go through the stud on the opposite side of the wall when adding a new outlet box?

I was trying to add an outlet on the other side of the wall and when I cut the opening for the new box, I saw that the power wires were running through the stud on the opposite side before looping back. Do you think there could be a specific reason for this setup, or was it just a random decision by the electrician during the initial build? I’m just curious as I work on adding the new outlet box.
The new outlet needs to be connected to the existing one, which might be powering something else initially
