Why is the well pump breaker tripping after a green conductor was used as a hot wire during rewiring at the church building?

A while back, we had some work done on our church’s well pump and a fancy well house was put up over it (it’s a 6 inch drilled well, in case you were curious). Recently, we’ve been having issues with the breaker (it’s a 20 A D/P) tripping. So I decided to roll up my sleeves and do some investigating. Turns out, the person who did the rewiring used a green conductor as a hot wire, which is a big no-no. I have a hunch there might be an underground splice causing trouble, but I haven’t been able to track it down yet because the corrugated raceway disappears into a concrete slab. Stay tuned for updates…

So is that the wire going to the well pump or the one powering the motor control box?
