Why does the silicone around my tub keep cracking no matter what type I use, especially on one side?

Have you tried using 100% silicone? There might also be a gap under the tub, so when you fill it with water, it exerts pressure causing the caulk to stretch. Fill the tub with water first, then apply the caulk. Allow it to dry before draining the tub. Best of luck! 👍🏼
Thank you !!
Apply rout and Caulk
Fill the tub before applying silicone and make sure to use 100% silicone. That should do the trick.
Hey, this is the way.
This product works wonders
Presence of Moisture
Whenever I recaulk anything in a bathroom or kitchen, I always use a heat gun to ensure there is no moisture in the gaps. I also use plenty of acetone to remove all the old caulk. Properly cleaning the surface is crucial for 99% of the job.
You may have more success with an extreme stretch caulk.
John, this stuff is really great!
You should fill the tub and stand in it, apply the caulk, and stay there for 10-20 minutes until it’s partially set. The weight in the tub is what causes the cracking.
You’re welcome!
I believe that the grout beneath the silicone is starting to crack.
The number one priority is to completely remove the old adhesive, don’t just cover it up! You’re welcome.
Ary Derischebourg try this method: after removing, clean with alcohol, let it dry, and apply a slightly wider bead. Ready to go.
Ary Derischebourg how about a razor blade?
Sure thing

New silicone won’t adhere to dry silicone, so you need to eliminate all remnants of the existing silicone.
Sure thing! How should I go about doing that? Using a razor blade?
Yes, it’s .
These plastic caulk removers do a pretty good job too.

Et rid of the old silicone, clean the area thoroughly, fill the tub, and then apply silicone when the tub is full.
People are overlooking a crucial element here…
You have to fill the tub all the way with water and throw in some extra weight, about your weight.
Scrape off all the old silicone, using a blade or scraping tool to remove most of it.
Paint the surfaces where the silicone will stick with toenail polish and scrub them to ensure all the hidden silicone is gone.
ive it a full day to dry completely.
After 24 hours, fill the tub completely, add extra weight, and apply the new silicone. Use 100% silicone. You can lightly spray soapy water on it and run your finger along it for a smooth finish.
Let it cure for at LEAST 24 hours before draining the tub and removing the weight.
Avoid doing this before the 24-hour mark.
Right on.👍
I always make sure to do this, especially before tiling on a new build 😁
I’ve seen so many guys tile without doing it and they always get callbacks.
Spencer yeah, I’m a plumber lol.
I also keep fish and have had to fix a few aquariums lol
A buddy of mine who taught me that a while back is a plumber. The first house I bought, we remodeled it. We set the tub and put the surround up.
A few days later, my wife asked me why I put the surround up crooked 😂😂
I never forgot to fill a new tub before any wall treatment again.
Well, at least it was in my own home and not a customer’s home.
Spencer hahaha true that, right? hahaha
Sometimes it’s just better that way, hahaha
Wow, that’s a lot haha
Sure thing, thank you!
I’m a journeyman, you know? I have an apprentice. I’ve had many apprentices. Haha, I tend to over-explain things, you know?
Make sure to fill the tub before applying caulk. I’ve taken care of cleaning off all the old caulk.
