Why does my kitchen sink gurgle when the dishwasher is draining water?

Hey, so my kitchen sink makes a gurgling noise when my dishwasher is draining. Is that supposed to happen?
Yes
Not a major issue unless water is starting to back up, in that case the space could use better ventilation like a stack or something
Mine has always been that way. It’s pretty typical
It could be due to a partial blockage or a problem with ventilation.
That’s a warning that your line might get clogged soon if it hasn’t been a recurring issue.
There might be a slight blockage somewhere. You could try dismantling the pipes to investigate, but it’s not a major concern as long as things are still flowing.
Try running your garbage disposal to see if it makes a difference.
I don’t possess one
If it were me, I’d opt for a drain cleaner, .
Hey there, I’m the plumber. Looks like there’s a partial blockage in the kitchen sink line.
Hey, , do you know where the kitchen sink is?
Hey, , did you find your kitchen sink?
Thanks a lot
You’re welcome
Is not completely accurate, but it’s a good ‘guess’…and trying to steer the author in the wrong direction…
Thomas ph, alright. How long has your plumbing been in place?
Yes
Yep, it’s always been that way.
Absolutely
When your dish washer drain is connected to your garbage disposal, the sound you hear is not gurgling, but rather the water flowing out of the hose into the disposal.
I don’t have a garbage disposal, unfortunately.
There’s a drain pipe right off the bottom of your sink where it connects. If you listen closely, you can hear the water flowing through it. I’m willing to bet that if you peek down the sink drain when you hear the sound, you’ll see the water coming out
If the noise coming from the dish washer drain connected to the sink is too loud, it might be necessary to unplug something.
My sink has always made gurgling noises (double sinks) when the dishwasher empties into the pipes below – it’s just the dishwasher pushing water through the P-trap…
Thomas ph I have a double sink, but I don’t recall ever hearing this sound before. If I did, it certainly wasn’t as noticeable.
Whenever my sink makes noise, I simply press down on the strainer above the drain to quiet it down. I’m confident my pipes are clear, despite what others may think.
Hey, Thomas ph, just wanted to say thank you. I really appreciate it.
The dishwasher empties into the sink, so it’s normal to see a small upside-down cup, which is the air gap
It seems like it’s experiencing some serious acid reflux and could use an antacid 🤭(just kidding)
Wait, so the dishwasher drain is connected to the kitchen sink drain?
Seems to be.
Most definitely.
Explained that it’s typically linked to the garbage disposal
Kevin s said his is, but what if there’s no disposal?
Mentioned that it connects to this
Isn’t Kevin s a total drag?
Is a part that you put in the line to connect the dishwasher.
My car has always functioned like this. No problems with it yet.
I faced a similar issue to what you’re describing. It turned out to be a faulty vent pipe that extends to the roof. I’m not entirely sure of its technical name. Once that was repaired, there was no more gurgling!
Guess what, had to remove a dead squirrel from a vent line at a house with the same problem
Ew, Kevin s is gross!
I disagree with individuals who suggest connecting it to their system is a violation of code.
My car has always behaved this way. No issues.
Oh, just try running the garbage disposal. It could be a clog causing the issue.
I don’t possess one
Normal
If you’re hearing burping sounds, it’s usually a sign of the line being clogged.
Yeah, pretty much. The reason is that it connects to the sink tailpiece. I can’t stand it. I always accidentally release the sink stopper when I use the dishwasher. It might also be due to a faulty vent.
No
Gurgling is basically a sign of venting. I may not be a plumber, but I have more knowledge than many plumbers I subcontract to. As a general contractor, I am not authorized to perform new plumbing work. However, I have witnessed those who are authorized to do so ruin entire systems. Then I step in behind the scenes to rectify the situation. It’s puzzling how the system is flawed.
