“Which type of paint is ideal for a temporary stair makeover before fully renovating the basement?”

Hey there! Do you have any recommendations for what type of paint would work well on these stairs? We’re looking for something simple and fast since we’re planning to renovate our basement in a couple of years.
I usually opt for a paint specifically made for exterior porches and decks. Preparation is key, so make sure to set and fill any nails, sand down any dirt or debris, and thoroughly clean the surface. Consider choosing a light gray color to clearly show the steps and prevent any missteps.
While many have switched from oil-based paints, you can opt for a brand like Rustoleum for a durable surface once it dries.
Consider using exterior porch or deck paint, but be cautious as paint can create slippery steps. To prevent this, you can cover the treads with non-slip stair treads. A pack of 15 is available for less than $35 on Amazon and is definitely worth the investment.
For the treads and risers, you can go with Sherwin Williams Armor Seal Tred-plex or a good quality trim paint.
