What’s the safest and easiest way to remove the rounded lip from stretcher frames for center supports without using a table saw, as I will be doing this frequently for my art work?

Hey everyone, I have a bunch of stretcher frames for stretching paintings, but I need to remove the rounded lip of the wood to use as center support braces. The wood is only about 2 inches thick, so I’d rather not use a table saw. Any suggestions on the easiest and safest way to do this? I’ll be doing this frequently since I sell my artwork. This group has been super helpful with my remodel projects, so I thought I’d ask here. Thanks in advance for any advice!

Do you happen to own a router table?

Georgia Mendoza

You know what, I don’t think so

Brent Coleman

What about a router or a planer?

Daniel Johansen

Did you happen to receive these for free? I was thinking, why didn’t you just purchase a simple corner bead trim instead? Anyway, it seems like you might not have the necessary tools to do it the easy way, so you’ll need to acquire some tools or resort to using a jig and a hand saw. Personally, I would opt for the table saw without hesitation.

Georgia Mendoza

Yeah these are leftovers from when I was making the stretcher frames. They either need to be used or thrown out. I’ve been using a hand plane up to now but it’s too time-consuming. I want to keep my fingers safe so I avoid using the table saw

Daniel Johansen

Taped them onto a different board and ran them through the table saw

Georgia Mendoza

Okay, that’s actually a pretty good idea, thanks for helping out

Daniel Johansen

You’re welcome, happy to help
