What’s the best method for painting a cheap laminate side table to ensure the paint sticks properly?

I’ve got this cheap side table that I want to paint. I’m planning on using spray paint for the legs. But I’m not sure how to get the paint to stick to the weird laminate surface. Should I try liquid sand or manual sanding? Do I need to do a deep sand or just a light surface sand? The laminate has a slick feel with a hint of wood grain.
I’ll be using Sherwin Williams tough trim paint in latex. I hope this all makes sense! 🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️
Remember to scuff sand and then apply Stix primer. It’s the easiest one on the market and very effective in my opinion. Just be sure to allow it to set for 24 hours before adding the top coat
As mentioned, make sure to scuff sand and use Stix, a great bonding primer. I suggest avoiding Sherwin Williams products. Command paint is durable
I recommend avoiding Ben Moore and command,
After wiping down well with Krud Kutter, drying it, priming with extreme bond primer or a spray can primer, then doing your first and final coats, just let Sherwin know it’s for B&E painting services. The job name should be your last name to get my price
We’ve had paint for kitchen units that had an etch. It’s been a year now and is still holding up well
Make sure you clean it thoroughly and then use a 60 or 80 grit sandpaper to rough it up. Avoid sanding it too smooth because the paint needs some texture to adhere to.

Lightly sand and use a bonding primer before painting. For water-based options, consider STIX or Xim UMA. If you prefer solvent-based primers, BIN shellac, Kilz Original, and Coverstain are great choices. A 320 grit sandpaper is all you need – the goal is to have a smooth surface, not necessarily free of scratches. Make sure to sand the primer until it is smooth as glass before applying paint. These primers mentioned sand easily. For paint, consider using urethane options like Command, Emerald trim paint, or INSL-X Cabinet Coat.
I would opt for a thin piece of wood on top instead.
Have you thought about wrapping your paint in vinyl?
