What type of paint should I use for this project? Do you think spray paint would be a good option? And do I need to seal it afterwards? This is my first time trying a DIY project for my daughter, so I really appreciate any advice you can give me! 馃挆
I applied rustoleum on ours and encountered no problems at all. I didn’t even need to seal it.
You’re welcome! Glad I could help out, Michaela!
Hey Haylee s, no worries at all!
Is this brand new? Any paint coming off? Adding more paint might not help if there is peeling.
Since it’s pre-owned and there’s no peeling paint, I plan on painting it in pink and white to match my girls’ playroom
Haylee s Go ahead and start painting! If you’re using spray cans, remember to apply thin coats. It might be challenging to cover the black with pink. From my 30 years of experience in professional interior painting, I recommend priming in white first.
Sure thing! There’s actually a pink version of this kitchen, but I ended up with this one for free!
Hey Haylee s, try to remove as many decorations/knobs/handles as you can before painting. Check with the paint store for the best masking tape to use with spray paint to avoid bleeding. If I were to paint this for a customer, I would follow the same steps that a professional car painter would take in terms of masking and using multiple colors.
Hey , would you prefer using spray paint or a different type of paint for this project?
Hey Haylee s, if you happen to have an airless paint sprayer, feel free to use that. If not, spray cans are a good alternative!
The spray cans create a smooth, glossy finish. Remember to tape and mask off areas when spraying. Take your time and let each color dry completely before adding tape. It’s best to work slowly, focusing on one section at a time. Consider doing opposite sides simultaneously – for example, tape off the front and spray the sides first. Once dry, cover the sides and spray the front. This method helps prevent overspray on each surface. If a certain area is difficult to reach, cover surrounding areas and spray separately.
Consider using chalk paint. Remove the gloss first since it’s mostly laminate. Disassemble it entirely. I also recommend using contact paper for shelves or decorative pieces.
Hey , can you explain what gloss off is?馃 Sorry, this is my first Project!
Gloss off is a great option for those who prefer not to sand. Sanding is typically recommended to roughen up a surface for better primer adhesion
