What type of paint or stain is best for achieving a black and white staircase look that contrasts with light gray flooring?

Hey guys! Quick question about staining staircases! So, I’ve been struggling to find a stain that goes well with our light gray flooring, so I’m thinking of going with a contrasting color instead. I’ll share a photo of what I’m aiming for, but I’m a bit confused on whether I should use a stain, gel stain, or paint for a black and white staircase. Has anyone tried this before and knows what works best for achieving this look?
I used Minwax ebony for the treads and Sherwin Williams Dover White paint for the risers.
I also put two coats of polyurethane on the treads.
(Please ignore the gate. I have a blue heeler – also known as a velociraptor – who is not supposed to go upstairs.)
Your stairs look amazing! Thanks a lot.
Did you apply a semi-transparent stain or a solid one?
Mentioned that it is semi-transparent.

Recently used floor paint from Sherwin Williams to paint my stair treads – turned out great!

Check out the black poly combo they offer. It’s amazing – you can wet sand it to achieve a piano-like finish. -Minwax
