Most unions are pretty exclusive – they won’t even consider letting you join if you don’t have a connection. It’s almost like being part of a secret club, with all the dues and everything.
I also used to believe all of this. Being part of a union is definitely worth it

Most individuals gain experience in residential or commercial structures. Personally, I have a preference for projects at airports. However, the possibilities are endless at this stage.

Joining a union isn’t necessary – start your own business and be your own boss.
Knowing the code is key, trust me. It’s worth it. Understanding the code is more valuable than just being the person with the pipe bender.
That’s the approach I took man. I learned the hands-on work but focused more on coding. I’ve been running my own business for 4 years now. I became increasingly valuable to my employers as I advanced in my skills. That’s how I became a project manager at a young age, while others who neglected coding skills stayed behind.
I think it’s probably good advice. As I approach 60, I see that many financially successful people started a company and grew it slowly over time. It’s not for everyone though, as not everyone who enjoys being an electrician will enjoy running a company. But if you end up enjoying it, the potential is huge.
I’ve been in the union and working as a union contractor for eleven years now. I’ve also been an electrician for 26 years. I wouldn’t change a thing about it. The financial security and fringe benefits that come with being in the union are unmatched.
And monkeys bending pipes are way more profitable than someone lecturing me about the code. Most of the projects are already planned out, so while it’s important to have knowledge of codes and electrical theory, being a skilled conduit bender and hard worker will make you a valuable employee.
I never really got the hang of running pipes, but I didn’t need to since I’ve been in business for myself for four years now. I’ve found that I’ve made more money as a project manager or leader than I ever did doing the grunt work of running pipes. The pen is definitely mightier than the sword – it always has been and always will be.
Collaborate with various experienced workers, each bringing their own unique tips and techniques to the table. ain experience in a variety of settings like houses, apartments, restaurants, and warehouses. Learn skills such as fire alarm installation, low voltage control, and PLC wiring. Take on both renovation projects and new construction jobs. After a decade of working in the field, you’ll be prepared to oversee projects on your own. Spend a few years running jobs to expand your knowledge further. Eventually, you’ll have a well-rounded skill set and be equipped to start your own business if you decide to do so.

There have been numerous layoffs
That’s not accurate
The unions I’ve come across in Iowa are quite similar. Many people have to travel from other states due to layoffs and other reasons
I spent 22 years working in Detroit without ever being laid off

Yeah, that’s really solid advice for someone fresh out of trade school. He has a good chance at success.

About 10% of wiremen can manage a business, it involves more than just wiring.

I’m not interested in buying into a labor contract just to have access to labor.
Is definitely right about that.

Just do whatever task you’re assigned to.
All is good
Focus on your mindset!!🙄🙄
If you’re able to take Union classes, I think that’s the best way to really understand the math and formulas.
