What should we do about a leaking pipe in our basement that we have no idea what it connects to or is used for?

Hey there! I just spotted a pipe in the basement that seems to be leaking. I’m not sure what it’s connected to or what its purpose is. Can anyone give me some advice on what steps we should take? We’re still pretty new homeowners, having just bought this house back in July.
In the past, we used to have a whole house filter or water softener
The fastest and most cost-effective solution would be to remove those fittings at the end, clean the paint off the copper above the cuts, and solder copper caps on. Alternatively, the old valves and unused pipes could be taken out and replaced with a simpler setup
Cut the old water filter connection and seal it with shark bites
Hey Kevin s, we finally solved the issue. It turned out to be a loose packing nut! I’ll remind my husband to take care of it. Right now, I don’t think we need to worry about anything else. Thanks a lot!
The valve for the water softener hookup is leaking. I’m considering repiping it without the stub outs and installing a new shut off valve
Yeah, looks like an old filter or softener. Make sure to cap them off correctly.
Give it a good plug!
Oh wow, that seems like a DIY grey water system or for emergencies like a basement flood. I’m not sure, but have you checked if it leaks when you flush upstairs? It’s always good to have someone else take a look too.
