How do you suggest I remove the mantle? Thanks so much!
Take a peek at the top of the mantle close to the wall. You might find finish nails or finish head structural screws there. Just remove them, and the mantle should slide forward off the cleat that’s secured to the framing.
Danny Dizzle sure thing! I’ll give that a shot
Hey Danny Dizzle, I’ll keep you posted on the outcome. Thanks a lot!
I checked.. no screws or nails on top.
Hey , are you positive they weren’t filled and painted? If there are no fasteners, it’s likely hanging on a cleat. You should be able to lift it straight up. Just make sure to cut any caulk or paint first, or you’ll damage the wall.
It could possibly be Danny Dizzle. I’ll look into it further. Appreciate the help.
Heavy hammer 🔨
The mantel might be mounted on a French cleat. Have one person on each side and lift up carefully. If it doesn’t move, then it’s not hung that way.
Sounds good, I’ll skip the chalking and give it a try. Thanks!
Slice through the caulk and use a slim pry bar to gently remove it – make sure to protect the wall.
Grab a crowbar.
