What is the correct order for re-flooring after water damage and what type of moisture barrier is recommended to prevent future issues?

Our washing machine had a little mishap – the electric sensor that usually tells it the drum is full of water went haywire, and it ended up overflowing for over 45 minutes. Oops!

The drying out process is all done now, but we had to remove the flooring because there were multiple layers. I’m in the rebuilding stage now, but I’m a bit clueless when it comes to flooring. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

So, we took out a layer of tile that was mortared to laminate floor, which was on top of plywood. Under the plywood was a layer of felt, and under that was the original subfloor. Now, all that’s left is the subfloor.

I think the plan is to put some kind of moisture barrier on the original subfloor, then lay down plywood, followed by another layer of moisture barrier before installing LVT. Does that sound right? And if you have any tips on the type of moisture barrier to use, I’d love to hear them! 😂
