What is the best solution for repairing peeling paint on a ceiling with woven linen texture panels from a 1956 home?

Hey there! So I recently purchased a house from 1956 and I’ve noticed some water damage on the ceiling. The source of the leak has been fixed, but now I have paint that’s peeling and chipping. The panels on the ceiling have a woven linen texture that I really like and I’m hoping to maintain. Any thoughts on the best solution for this issue? I’ll post a close-up picture of the panel and paint tomorrow for reference.
You might want to try scraping away the peeling/chipping sections and using a texture roller with a matching pattern. I had to do this as well. I scraped into the ceiling to create space for the texture material to be applied smoothly. I purchased the roller on Amazon. They offer some wood grain tools. Just keep in mind that if you can match the color closely, no one will notice.
You should get a chip and take it to your local hardware store to match the color and possibly the finish, maybe a matte one
Chip it off, sand it down.
As for the bubbly finish, I’m not sure. Perhaps an experienced employee in the paint department could assist you
Avoid messing with those panels from 1956… There’s a 95% chance of asbestos, which is fine as long as you don’t disturb them.
I think many people would agree that there’s a good chance those panels might have asbestos. Have you considered covering them with shiplap or something similar?
We are really worried about that. Finding information about them has been extremely difficult.
Maybe we could try wallpapering over them to achieve a similar woven texture.
I’ve heard that it only becomes dangerous if the asbestos becomes airborne. As long as it’s undisturbed, it should be okay. There are likely companies that can test a sample for it.
I posted a picture of the board below
I don’t have any useful information…I just wanted to mention…what a lovely room😊
Same!
One day we’ll remove that wall in the kitchen and put in an island instead. It’s going to be fantastic!
