So, we ultimately made the decision to just go for it! What are your thoughts on the final result? We are absolutely thrilled with how it turned out.

I’m loving the dark wall that matches the color of the fireplace. It looks fantastic!

That’s a really cool and daring choice! The black looks great. If it were up to me, I’d consider painting or changing the white trim in the middle and maybe opting for a different piece of artwork. With the fireplace, artwork, and trim, there are a lot of squares/rectangles in that area. Just a thought, but adding something with a bit more texture/different shape could really harmonize the room beautifully!

Wow! The stonework around the fireplace really stands out now with the lighter color washed out. The artwork complements it perfectly. It feels so cozy!

I did something similar to this at my house, but I used live edge red oak instead.

I went ahead and sanded the floors, but decided not to apply polyurethane due to having a dog.

I used to have 2 American bulldogs and they eventually wore off the polyurethane coat. Now I only have 1, and she’s a lively puppy. Applying the polyurethane was simple, but the shine fades over time. Still, it’s quite easy to keep up with.

Hey Lindsay! This is what the floors looked like before I started. I had to do some hand sanding because some boards were a bit uneven, but overall, for around $300, I was able to refinish my living room, dining room, hallway, and downstairs bedroom. I rented an orbital floor sander, but that cost is already included in the total.
