As a homeowner DIY guy, I solder all of mine. I find it puzzling that electricians don’t solder all connections. That’s laziness. Even the grounds. Soldering irons exist for a reason and we should use them.
Not all connections should be soldered because you shouldn’t solder everything. Not about being lazy, it’s just that you’re clearly a homeowner DIY guy.
The telephone company solders everything and has been doing so for 75 years… all voltages, wire sizes, and load types, AC and DC. If they do it, there’s a reason. The commercial work doesn’t because they are in a rush. Soldering is always a good thing.
I made a joke because when I opened my basement ceiling, I discovered a bunch of open splices that were soldered, nutted, and taped with the good stuff (possibly asbestos).
I think the electrical code mandates wire nuts, Wagos, or a mechanical connection like a screw for each connection. It’s for safety reasons. Sometimes wires can get hot and melt solder, leaving only electrical tape to prevent a live wire from shorting to ground. That doesn’t sound safe!
At least he used his lineman’s to twist them together.

I personally enjoy using those yellow wire nuts for various other purposes. For instance, grab one of those wire nuts and put a 1″ drywall screw into the wire side. Use your drill to screw it in until the threads come out of the top of the wire nut. Then, insert this makeshift blow dart into a 1/2″ copper water line and blow. It’s kind of like having a round in a chamber. The dart comes out really fast and can stick into drywall or any target you want. I learned this trick back in the 80s, haha.
He is destined for this!
Trayton ammon is he calling the fire department?
Was it successful?
For what purpose
Is the splice box located in the whole basement?
Just send it over!
Nobody even batted an eye when a junction was added đ€Ł
He’s a pro! But where are you…?
Does it actually make a difference? Not really
A tangled mess
He thinks as long as it does the job.
When you need to do fault finding and split the circuit, all these tangled cables will be a nightmare đ

Were those soldered together?

I think they do that because any feedback would probably come through the phone. Soldering would be good if you won’t be moving the wire around.
Soldering is not the way to go here
If you tightly twist the ends with lineman pliers, then use a wire nut and tape, it should stay secure.
Is all about staying together

Oh no, that’s not true!
It’s not 1906, that’s why.
That old school method from the 60s, seen them soldered before in older buildings, as pointed out.
So, , what’s the deal? A solid connection is already established with a good twist.
I’m a fan of this.
Feeling proud of purchasing a bag of yellow wirenuts
Well, it seems to be working!
So you embarrassed him and charged him too much? You’re quite the clown!
Well, at least he remembered to use wire nuts haha
It’s not any worse than some of the junk I see done by licensed holders.
Wire nuts that match, cool! lol.
Is definitely better than tape haha
Heath and Lisa Hensley always use masking tape lol
Could have just wrapped it in insulation… would have been fine lol

I’m crossing my fingers for those black and white wires to swap places.
Hey, guaranteed by Ed Conch!
Reminds me of our previous house đ
Why don’t you put it in a box, you clever person?
He even participates in voting!
What, because he didn’t set his house on fire?
So, how much would you ask to connect these for me? đ
Was he getting paid based on the number of wire nuts he used?
Seems like a professional electrician handled this.
I REALLY HOPE YOU HAVE A OOD FIRE INSURANCE
Ha, that guy has a sunburn on his neck.
You have to admire the creativity.
Did this happen in Massachusetts?
Looks like trash, no matter what
Just a junction box.
But he forgot to use a junction box for his wires
He twisted the wires in the correct direction đđŒ
Seems legit.
It’s so lovely when they illuminate… right?
OM, I can’t believe it!
The special for homeowners

I think he was
Hey, you know if the light turns on…
Well, if it works and it’s safe, good for him.
