What could be causing stains on the ceiling above the shower and how can I clear the corrosion from the drain?

I live in a two-story house and realized there are stains on the ceiling of the first floor, directly above the shower on the second floor. It seems like something is dripping whenever the shower is on.
I opened the drain and discovered this corrosion. Any ideas on what might be causing this? And how can I go about clearing that corrosion? Thanks!
Maybe a combination of Fromundah, Jizz, and Shit
Hey , I do waffle stomp all those things too, so that makes sense
You’re going to have to get a new shower pan.
That probably isn’t the issue. The shower pan liner has likely failed. Make sure to clean it well and do a thorough inspection. The setup seems odd, with a lip above the grout. Look for any cracked joints. But overall, I think it has failed. Just so you know, Red Guards tend to fail. There are much better products out there.
Hey , what product would you suggest?
Have you considered using Laticrete or Wedi for the shower?
Time for a new shower
When you open up the drywall, you’ll have proof positive for assessment. Drywall is far easier on the pocketbook if it’s something simple to fix
Try opening the ceiling beneath the shower and running the water to identify where it’s leaking. Look for water marks on the underside to pinpoint the location of the leak. Hopefully, it’s a simple repair
Thanks everyone for the help.
I tried running water directly down the drain pipe with a hose- no leaks. I sealed the drain with a test ball and filled it to the top- no leaks.
Still with the test ball, I filled the shower a quarter inch above the floor, and it dripped all day.
I removed old silicone caulk from the shower floor and re-caulked it. Then I sealed the tile/grout with 511 impregnator to prevent water from seeping under the tile.
Took several showers since then, and no more drips. I know the shower pan still has issues, but hopefully this temporary fix will hold up until we can afford to remodel.
