So, I noticed that there’s this pretty big space between the stairs and the sidewalk on my front porch. It looks like the previous owners tried to fill it in with some kind of material that’s now starting to crumble. I’m not even sure what it is! Aside from calling in a professional to repair it, does anyone have any ideas on how I could tackle this issue myself?
If the step measures 7 1/2 inches (it’s always helpful to insert a known scale item or ruler in the pictures), then the lower (which is unknown in this case) ‘substrate had slumped or settled downwards.
You can purchase small containers of powdered non-shrink grout. Mix it until stiff and fill the gap with a narrow stick or ‘pointing trowel’.
