What are your thoughts on my outdoor shower design with a propane tankless water heater, minimal use for rinsing, and reluctance to hire a contractor or plumb water lines?
Hey there! I’m looking for some feedback on my latest project idea – building an outdoor shower. I’ve got a design in mind, but I’m not sure if I need some extra support overhead. Planning on using a propane tankless water heater since it’ll mainly be for rinsing off before hitting the hot tub or pool. I’ve even included a photo of where I want to put it.
Just a heads up in case anyone was thinking of suggesting it – I’m not looking to use natural gas at the moment, and I’ll definitely be getting all the necessary permits. I’m also not keen on hiring a contractor for this project. Oh, and the water runoff near the foundation shouldn’t be an issue since I’m in Austin and the soil could use the hydration.
No need to worry about using soaps or adjusting the existing concrete grading. I won’t be attaching anything to the house, and I’ll just be using a water hose for now. I’ll reach out to an engineer if necessary, but I think I’ll be okay with the tapcon screws not going too deep. Still debating on changing the design on one of the walls, but we’ll see how it goes. Any thoughts on the whole setup?
I recently spotted those identical post brackets on Amazon for a reasonable price, in case that’s useful to you.
I’m curious if solar heating can be used for the water
Oh, thank you! These are pretty affordable compared to others at Home Depot, but I will definitely check them out!
It all depends on what else might occur in there aside from just showering.
Is thinking about dancing, maybe?
Might be up to some nighttime mischief if you have teenagers around.
I wouldn’t count on those brackets for any sort of structural support. And I highly doubt they would pass any necessary permits. Simpson Strong Ties offers a decorative selection. You can look them up online to find a suitable alternative. You could also ask a local supply yard to order what you’re looking for. The propane heater wouldn’t meet inspection requirements in my area. Consider adding it in after the final inspection and make sure to use common sense when operating it.
