Looks like a bushing is needed in the lower metal connection.
Or it seems there’s a thick insulation around the wires to protect them like a bushing, so they don’t rub against the fitting.

That’s not a pipe, it’s a fitting for armored cable.
Whenever you refer to it, make sure it has a bushing. Metal edges touching insulation in tight spaces
