What are the safest and most practical well cover options for egress window wells to ensure both safety and usability?

What types of covers do you think would work best for these egress window wells? How can we make sure they are safe and easy to use?
Window well covers that are not a standard size or shape can be really costly. I had a wide window well and ended up making my own cover using 2×4 and 2×2 framework, acrylic side panels, and polycarbonate for the top. Mine even has a hinge for easy escape. If you want some inspiration, check out window well covers on YouTube to see what other people have created.
Illumicast is the place to go for egress windows. Located in Hutchinson, Kansas, they make their own polycarbonate and aluminum window well covers. Plus, they’re really friendly people!
