What are the best materials, such as plywood or timber, for creating a DIY wall storage solution with shelves and hooks for decor and clothing?

I’m thinking about doing something like this, but on a larger scale – covering my entire wall. I’m thinking of using wood and attaching something like this underneath so I can decorate the top and hang clothes on the bottom. Sorry if this sounds confusing, I’m not very handy when it comes to DIY projects. What would be the best materials to use on the wall – plywood, timber, or something else? Thanks in advance.
