What alternative materials can we use to replace the wooden sills in the shower window without removing it?

I noticed that the window in my shower has wooden sills. Do you have any ideas for what we could replace them with? Just to clarify, we can’t remove the window right now.

Vinyl trim is resistant to rot

PVC boards. Check if you can locate Azek or Kleer products nearby, or any other PVC brand.

At this Home Hardware store also offers a product called Razor which is similar to Azek but more cost-effective in my area.

We tiled around our window. However, we were renovating the entire bathroom.

When they redid my dad’s shower, they used White marble on the wood window seal and sealed it to prevent moisture. It matches the shower perfectly and looks amazing.

PVC or stone/tile

You have more to think about than just the window sill … the entire trim. THAT sounds like a tough situation!! I’m guessing plastic trim all around … with urethane caulk too. The window also needs to seal well. I’m not sure about the specifics of how the window operates/seals as it closes, etc, but the trim might be just a small part of the issue. Having the window open DURIN the shower MAY also be a problem (even though it sounds logical). Maybe you should consider a roll-down (clear?) shade that covers the entire window?? This seems to be one of the worst window/shower situations I’ve ever encountered, and I’ve never avoided windows in or near showers.

A simple and affordable solution would be a shower curtain

I have always had a window in my shower. It’s a favorite of mine.

PVC trim can give a fresh set of veneers 😃

Hmm, does water splash outside and run down? I would suggest tiling and caulking. You might be fortunate if it’s Dal Tile and you can order the same color. Hopefully, the window is vinyl. If it’s wood😬, make sure to caulk every joint and apply multiple coats of wood boat urethane. Alternatively, hang up a curtain.

Consider marble sill and vinyl trim moldings for a more elegant touch.

PVC trim could be a nice and affordable solution. It might not be the cheapest, but it will definitely stand the test of time. Opt for white Lexel as a sealant in corners and under the sill.

Check out what has to say!

Just grab the vinyl trap, remove it, retrim with Final Trim, and make sure it’s caulked and sealed properly.

You can use this paint for it. They even use it for painting their showers and tubs. Try out the All-In-One Paint by Heirloom Traditions roup
