I have seen green used for ‘equipment’ panels, such as VAVs and commercial kitchen equipment. This was at Local 728 in Fort Lauderdale, where there is mostly hospital work.
Some hospitals I work for prefer blue for critical branch and orange for emergency. They also use purple for data and red for FA. It’s hard to keep track of when working at multiple facilities, but very helpful for servicing.
Has done a lot of public work jobs, where engineers’ fees are a percentage of the job. So, because they usually go for the lowest bid, the best way to increase the price is through high-priced items.
The last hospital I was in had different colors to represent different things: green for temperature controls, red for fire alarms, orange for emergencies, yellow for life safety, blue for data, and black for mechanical. I don’t have a problem with the colors, I just wish they would standardize them.
I remember working in a big arena a few years ago and the fire caulking failed, causing a huge electrical problem. I was up in a lift near the orchestra pit, which was fine, but there was a massive motor gearbox that lifted the whole pit. The arena had all the latest technology, but the electrical issues were crazy!
It looks like prefers shooting from there. Maybe there’s something on the other side of the wall that caused the misalignment. It’s usually a plumber’s pipe or some mechanical issue. 😂😂
New text: prefers shooting from that spot. There might be something on the other side of the wall causing the misalignment, like a plumber’s pipe or some mechanical issue. 😂😂
Shoutout to for the recognition! otta acknowledge the help received – a third-year student named played a big role. Some others also contributed. (By the way, the design layout follows the engineer’s specifications)

So, what exactly is the purple and green pipe for?
It turns out that instead of simply raising the pipes and securing them, we actually had to navigate them over and around various obstacles like rods, walls, and other pipes. You strike me as someone who may struggle with bending a pipe properly.
Maneuvering between rods, walls, and other pipes? You’re already doing this. It’s a nice job but you’re still hanging those pipes on straps. ravity can be tough 🤷🏻♂️
I can’t stand people who only criticize work. This was the task at hand, probably laid out by engineers, and I think it’s good-looking work. Whoever did it clearly takes pride in their work because it looks good. Hopefully, the haters will stop hating.
I’ve cursed many times those who do it the way you describe. Need to run more or expand? The struts with open end down provide a clear path for strapping pipe or using threaded rod.

3 90s in 10ft of conduit is not the best layout planning. :/ Someone will have a hard time getting wires in there without a JB on the other side of the wall.
That looks really cool. Out of the 150 pipes, people are only talking about 6 and have no idea what’s on the other side of the wall. Also, union contractors have tools that make wire pulling easier for us, so I’m sure whatever goes in those pipes will be pulled through with little effort.
5000 hours and 10,000 smoke breaks later. Spare me the lies. I’ve hired them before and it was a nightmare. They show up without tools, then waste 2 hours going back to get what they should have had from the start. Typical Dems.

I’m sorry, but those 45 bends should actually be bent at 30 degrees for easier wire pulls.
Is all the strut mounted down? Why is that? It’s a pain to install that way.
There are way too many bends in the room. You’re at 3-90’s before even exiting the room.
Try a 90 with a kick to eliminate several 90’s.
This is not something to brag about, poorly laid out.

The offsets all line up nicely, but the spacing seems a bit off. It might just be the angle of the photo, but the spacing definitely doesn’t look right.
Thanks for pointing that out! The 2”/4”/2” spacing on the greens was intentional, and the silver 45s do look a bit off with the 1s and 3/4s mixed in. I think I could have been more precise with the vertical alignment of the layers on the rack.

I’m not entirely convinced that every electrician can bend pipe. Do you want a medal for it?
Hey Tawanda! You have no idea how much fun I have. I’ve been working as an electrician for 40 years, and I’ve been a master for 30 years. Just recently retired from the state of Texas.
What was the green system for at the hospital?
That apprentice doing fire caulking is really going to have his work cut out for him.
Oh, this is for a new courthouse. The green pipes are for 277v.
Did you color code all conduits then?
Actually, it was the engineer’s decision.
That’s intriguing. I’ve used red for FA and Blue for LV before, but not for 277 or 208.
You did a great job.
Hey, do you think the offsets seem like extra work to you?
I have experienced that. It’s never in a convenient place, usually in a cramped tray or a slimy nasty vault.
I have seen green used for ‘equipment’ panels, such as VAVs and commercial kitchen equipment. This was at Local 728 in Fort Lauderdale, where there is mostly hospital work.
Is probably an engineer who has worked hands-on at some point in his career.
Some hospitals I work for prefer blue for critical branch and orange for emergency. They also use purple for data and red for FA. It’s hard to keep track of when working at multiple facilities, but very helpful for servicing.

Yes, like a blazing fire in a red painted conduit!

So, what exactly is the purple and green pipe for?
Purple is the color for temp and HVAC.
Reen runs on 277 volts.
Hey Steve, do you know where we can find the red for FA?
Hey Mike, this is the primary electrical room for this floor. The fire alarm and data rooms are separate.
So, most of this is temporary, right? HVAC can’t make up the majority, so… 😂
The two 2″ purple pipes provide power to the rooftop units.
Not the best design. How about using those struts as trapezes instead? Installing it should be a blast. Yuck.
It turns out that instead of simply raising the pipes and securing them, we actually had to navigate them over and around various obstacles like rods, walls, and other pipes. You strike me as someone who may struggle with bending a pipe properly.
It’s just gravity, scab.
Some individuals just want to display their ignorance on a larger scale

I agree, it could have been 2 90-degree angles and a kick instead.
Mentioned there is a junction box on the opposite side of that wall.
It seems like everyone wants to critique. These individuals have no idea what’s on the other side, yet they still criticize.
Did a great job with the pipe work for plumbing! Running wires through there won’t be easy though.
That’s why I mentioned *if there isn’t a JB*. Make sure to read the entire thing before commenting, so you don’t come off as unintelligent.
Has a flexible tip for fishing. Alternatively, compressed air can work well.
It’s difficult to tell if they could have planned the layout better.
That looks really cool. Out of the 150 pipes, people are only talking about 6 and have no idea what’s on the other side of the wall. Also, union contractors have tools that make wire pulling easier for us, so I’m sure whatever goes in those pipes will be pulled through with little effort.
Took them 2 years to bend it just right to send it flying!
Never tried pulling through 3 90’s before? 😂😂😂
It’s not fair to make a negative comment if you don’t know the whole situation on site.
I hope they remembered the pull string in each one of those. That sounds like a fish tape nightmare, haha!
Dennis also has a vacuum that works well.
I already have the three 90s, but fitting them into a 10-foot conduit is not a good idea, like I mentioned before.
Nope, that’s not right. The correct conduit layout is a maximum of 2 90-degree bends in every 10 feet of conduit.
Have you ever tried pulling wires through conduit, ?
Is from one end to the other. You can see them.
Was actually thinking along the same lines!
Sometimes you just don’t have a choice
Yo , what kind of tool pulls wire in 3/4″?
Hey , man I totally agree, you weren’t there. You can’t know. Stop acting like a know-it-all
It’s not the fish that’s the problem, it’s the wire hahaha
Hey , also last but certainly not least. There’s only 2 90s in the first ten feet. Can’t you see the connection? Duh
Hey , man that would have been like an 8 foot kick. And it would look terrible

Why did they choose green for 277v pipes? Maybe a more boyish color would have made more sense for the ground wire. It still looks good though.
Because that’s what the engineer requested, perhaps you could discuss it with them.
This statement is accurate, BECAUSE I WAS a member of Ibew local 494
Worked with them for 30 years, now it’s time for retirement

EMT conduit. Feeling better now? 😆
IBEW 569 representing San Diego California
Wow, that’s really nice!
I wouldn’t want to pull wire through that; hopefully, there’s a pull box on the other side… but it does look good
Probably took three times longer and was twice as expensive. Non-union power.
Feeling jealous, huh? How pathetic. 🐀
