We’re in the process of choosing new kitchen cabinets. We’re torn between going for a natural wood look or opting for painted cabinets. Any thoughts on the pros and cons of each option? Your input would be really helpful!
Choose what you truly love. If you prefer wood, go for it. If you like both, why not have both? Everyone will share their opinions, but ultimately, you should love it.
Opted for a natural wooden look since you can always paint over it later.
Exactly, you can always paint over it later if you get tired of the wood.
We went with a mix – white upper cabinets, wooden base cabinets, and white quartz counters resembling marble. We’re really pleased with how they turned out.

You can never go wrong with a classic natural wood look.

The natural wood look paired with painted cabinets is a favorite of mine.
When you browse through kitchen photos, what catches your eye the most? Focus on that… Keep in mind though, if you choose natural wood cabinets, you can always paint over them later if you change your mind about the finish.
Natural wood gives a more upscale appearance and comes in larger sizes.
In a previous home, I had white laminate cabinets that I absolutely adored. They were a breeze to maintain!
It all comes down to personal preference! Both options can be beautiful. Painted cabinets are usually less expensive, as if you’re going with wood, you’ll want the authentic material to avoid that cheap look.
I’ve had 7 kitchens in my lifetime – 5 with wood color cabinets and the last 2 with white painted cabinets. I prefer the white ones because they make it easier to see what I’m doing in the kitchen. So, from now on, I’m sticking with white painted cabinets. Dark log cabin homes just aren’t for me – they make me feel really uncomfortable.
