Should I swap out my almond light switches and receptacles for white ones before or after redoing my tile backsplash for easier installation?

Do you think it would be better to switch out the light switches and outlets before or after we redo the tile backsplash? I currently have the old almond ones and want to replace them with white ones. I’m thinking if I do it before, it might be easier for the tile person to make sure they’re level, especially if the tiles end up being a different thickness. What do you think?

Just a heads up in case the electrician needs to make any cuts into the drywall for tasks like increasing box sizes, upgrading wires for higher amperage, or adding more outlets to meet code standards.

I usually do them afterwards. It just looks neater that way. Make sure to tighten the outlet on top of the tile so the backsplash can be installed with the outlets pulled out and taped.

Is putting in the final product…yep, because proper wiring and boxing are crucial for a fantastic kitchen.

You might need to install insert box extenders after tiling, but they’re only about $2 each. Also, check out decora edge switches – you can attach the wire without needing a screwdriver.

If I were doing this at home, I would suggest cutting out the drywall in the area where you plan to install your new backsplash. This is a common practice because it’s easier to replace the drywall if there are existing tiles there. This way, you can avoid spending time removing old tiles and having to smooth out the surface. The end result will be much better. If there are no tiles to remove, make sure to have the outlets re-installed after the tiler is done. Depending on the thickness of your new tile, you may also need box extenders.

I’m currently in the middle of the same task. I swapped out all the fixed boxes with adjustable ones, allowing me to adjust the depth after the tile is in. The goal is to have those boxes align perfectly with the tile, not the sub-wall.

Sure! Just give me the original text and I will rephrase it in a conversational tone while maintaining the same meaning.

Remove them before and then put them back once he is finished. Insert the pink insulation board into the box.

Agrees because sometimes the ends are covered with tiles.

Start with the tile work, then move on to replacing the switches and outlets. And don’t forget to use box extensions.

I really wish there was a way to dislike some of these comments. Homeowners, YouTubers, and tradesmen on social media should think twice before posting comments. 🤐😊💯✔️
