Should I remove the shelf holders when applying peel and stick wallpaper, or will measuring and cutting around them work just as well for a first-timer?

Hey there! So I’m in the middle of wallpapering using peel and stick wallpaper, and I also painted the shelves and the shelf holders. I’m debating whether it would be better to take the shelf holders off before putting the wallpaper on, or if just measuring and cutting around them will be good enough. This is my first time working with wallpaper, so any advice would be super helpful!
Simply put a piece of paper between each set of shelf supports.
It’s less likely for large, continuous pieces to peel or lift.
You’ll probably have better luck with one long piece that holds up well.
It’d be much easier than attempting to cut multiple small straight pieces.
If you’re able to measure and cut accurately, the end result should look identical. But taking off the shelf brackets would be simpler.
Chances are the wallpaper will start peeling if you wrap it over the shelving units.
Removing the wood would make it easier, but as long as you keep it somewhat close to the bottom of the ledges, the shelves should hide any errors with the paper at the top. The shelves are probably 3/4 inches thick, so you have a little wiggle room.
No need to cut it precisely before hanging. Cut it an inch longer and then after hanging, grab a 6-inch putty knife or mud knife to use as a guide for your Olfa knife when trimming the paper. It’s similar to hanging wallpaper.
Paint it

Great job, !
I took the lazy route and it turned out really well!
Just go ahead and paint it. Putting up wallpaper will only make things more complicated. And removing the cleats that support the shelves is a tough job that you’ll regret later. Since it’s just a closet, it’s best to avoid unnecessary trouble.
