Should I rely on my strength to push the cement board flush with the studs while screwing, or should I trim the insulation for a better fit?

I’m about to install some cement board – when I’m screwing it in, do I just push on it to make sure it’s flush with the studs, or should I trim back some of the insulation first? Thanks in advance!

If you put too much pressure on that cement board, it’s likely to crack and cause the screws to pop out.

Hey , did you get insulation for a 2×4 wall? It shouldn’t protrude that much.

I prefer using Hardy backer, the material you have may warp and break. I only recommend using that for floors. Feel free to hang it however you want, but keep in mind that a wavy wall will require more effort to finish than a flat wall.

Hey , if you can handle a twisted path and still achieve smooth results, it might not be the easiest situation for a novice.

Is this actually happening? 😳

Steven Soto

You should return the wonder board and opt for Hardie instead. It will push the insulation back into place and is a superior option for tiling.

Maybe go with plywood first, then consider cement board?

Make sure to trim the insulation to fit properly within the framing. If the insulation is bulging out, it means you got the wrong thickness. Compressing the insulation will lower its R value.

Hey , you’ll need to trim or swap out all of that insulation. When insulation is compressed, it loses its ability to retain heat and becomes ineffective. Make sure it doesn’t fit too tightly inside the stud bay, or else it won’t be able to trap air in its gaps.

Remember to begin at the top and then work your way down when installing drywall or substrate

Gertraude Dallmann

Okay, don’t judge me, but at first I thought the small hole in the wall looked like a figure in a dark robe walking on sand next to a flat mountain ⛰️ haha I don’t know 🤷‍♀️

Naomi Olivier

Avoid compressing the insulation, it won’t work as intended. Seems like using 2×6 insulation in a 2×4 wall. You have three options: Trim the insulation to fit; Add 2×4’s to each stud (will still need to trim insulation); or replace with the correct thickness insulation

Brent Davis

It’s best to get the right size insulation, the wrong one won’t work well

Geruza Souza

‘t forget to give it a good push

You might want to start cutting some 2×4 shims and align the old studs properly.

Hey, that’s definitely not insulation! I’m familiar with insulation and that’s not what it looks like. Contact us for some honest advice, free of charge!

Closed cell foam seals differently than does. If sprayed carefully, your concrete board on the studs won’t blow off.
