Should I bother trying to add a closure to my bathroom doorway, or is it better to just start fresh with a frame and door installation?

So, there’s this doorway going into the bathroom that the construction crew just wrapped up. I’m thinking about adding some kind of closure or door to it, but I don’t want to ruin the work they did. Do you think it’s worth the time and money, or should I just go ahead and mess it up by putting in a frame and door?

Can we please replace the bathroom door with a proper one?

Kalpit Gugale

You could totally install a barn door

Actually, it’s the most straightforward solution.

It’s strange that they completed it without one! People always prefer to have a door on a bathroom. Just grab a pre-hung door and wrap up the project.

Do you really want a door in that spot? You must be quite private! 🙂

Gabriel Park

Barn doors are simple and provide some privacy but not complete. I might opt for a traditional pre-hung door.

Consider a barn door, or remove drywall and put in a regular door

Why have a door when you can have great eye contact while using the restroom.😂

Babür Sezek

Definitely a barn door. It’s the simplest option.

Is there a bathroom inside? If the toilet is in a separate water closet, then yes, a barn door or even saloon doors would work.

Ceylan Sözeri

We encountered a similar scenario. I constructed a barn door.

Simply put in a door frame and a door. The existing frame should work just fine.

How about using a curtain and rod for the shower? Just kidding, but it’s a cheap and quick solution! Oh, what about beads?

If you want to switch out the door, just find one that fits. Standard sizes are typically 30, 32, 34, or 36 inches wide. Make sure you have at least 81.5 inches of height. Check the opening at different spots since the sides may not be perfectly straight. Look up the rough opening dimensions online. Remember that the door swing area and casing should be square and straight. Bi-fold doors are another easy option.

Just use a tension rod and a curtain. Simple, affordable, and cute

Putting in and completing a prehung door is a great DIY task that allows you to pick up some useful skills while cutting costs. Invest in a high-quality door and check out a few YouTube tutorials 👍

Why did they decide to have a bathroom with no door? Ugh

I understand that barn doors may not be everyone’s favorite, but when done correctly, they can actually look quite nice. It seems like there’s enough space on the opposite wall for one. I personally installed these in our bathroom entryway.

If the measurements are for a typical door, you can simply purchase one and install it. If the framing is roughed in for a standard door, you’ll need to remove the drywall before putting it in. However, custom doors can work in either case. I once planned a house without doors to the master bath or closet for aesthetic reasons… and it worked out fine.
