Should I be wrapping my reflective foils horizontally from left to right or vertically from top to bottom for better insulation in my loft?

Hey there! With the weather getting colder, we decided to add some reflective foils to the loft. I’ve already done half of them, but I’m not sure if I’m doing it the right way.
The way I’m doing it now is wrapping horizontally from left to right, covering some timber sticks.
I found another way online which suggests wrapping vertically from top to bottom, with individual foil between each timber stick so it doesn’t cover any timber.
Which method do you think would be better for insulation? Let me know your thoughts!
Make sure to install a rafter vent before adding insulation. Otherwise, you might damage your shingles due to the reflected heat. It’s important to carefully read the manufacturer’s instructions and warranty.
Thanks to everyone, including . I haven’t set up the vent… the ventilation seems good in the attic since I can feel a breeze. Would it work if I create some openings for more airflow? Or is a complete redo necessary?
I apologize. I would remove the product, add the rafter vents, and then put it back in place.
As mentioned earlier, it’s important to have a vent, often referred to as a proper vent, before adding insulation to ensure airflow behind the insulation so that your roof sheathing can breathe and prevent moisture buildup.
Hey ! Just wanted to say thanks. I haven’t set up the vent yet… the attic ventilation seems good with the breeze I feel. Would it be okay to cut some holes for more airflow? Or is a complete redo necessary?
It’s crucial to maintain airflow between the radiant barrier and the roof sheathing. Avoid sealing everything off based on ‘logic’ alone. Logic is only effective when all the necessary information is available. You may find this video helpful: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YGoLG2Q24JY
Hey everyone, thanks for your help. I haven’t installed the vent yet, but the attic ventilation seems pretty good because I can feel the breeze. Do you think it’s okay if I cut some holes for more airflow, or do I definitely need to redo it?
When do you plan on insulating the attic? What type of insulation are you considering?
Is the reflective bubble foil.
Could you let me know what type of insulation you are considering for installation after the radiant barrier? Just to clarify, a radiant barrier is not considered insulation.
Hey , we’re adding some insulation rolls to the loft floor, but nothing else for the roof.
This doesn’t really serve a purpose. Ventilating the attic is key. A fan with 400 to 1000 cfm on a thermostat for cooling would be much more effective than this. Keep in mind, this could damage your shingles.
