Need tips on replacing a faucet and stem in my bathroom sink – any advice appreciated?

I’ve never replaced these knobs before. I’m thinking I might need to do the stems too, but I’m not positive. Currently, to turn on the hot water, I have to stick a screwdriver in by that middle screw and use it to turn it on. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, and sorry if this is a silly question.

Try removing the screw first, and then the knob should come off easily. Once you have the knob off, you can assess what needs to be done to fix it. It’s possible that you just need to replace the knobs if they are stripped.

Haha, I had the same issue with a similar set up at my daughter’s place. Just take out the screws and the knobs should come right off. You might be able to find new ones that fit. I had some damage to the stem where the knob connects, so I tried to find a replacement but couldn’t since it was a vintage 1960s shower valve. I searched everywhere but ended up having to replace the whole thing. I covered the old holes with a subway tile and now it’s all good. It was quite the ordeal for just wanting to change a knob. Good luck!

I had to replace the whole setup because I couldn’t find any parts. Luckily, I was able to access it from a closet behind the wall. By chance, I found a faucet that fit perfectly. Otherwise, I would have had to remove tiles, install a new faucet, and retile.

You should call a plumber before your house gets flooded.
