Looking to save on heating and cooling costs, has anyone tried using floating floors with a thin layer of foam insulation in a fifth wheel or trailer?

Has anyone ever considered installing floating floors in a fifth wheel or trailer, either instead of or on top of a thin layer of foam insulation? It could potentially help with reducing the high heating and cooling costs.

It would have to be extremely thin, which means it wouldn’t provide much r value. It’s best to insulate beneath the subfloor.

I have it installed, but there isn’t any significant r value to it.

I would update what’s there by going right over the top. Great idea! 👍🏻

Try to remove things that can be unbolted. You’ll probably have a lot to work around, so bring your A-game! 😃

I would suggest insulating with 2″ polystyrene along the outside for the best insulation during colder weather. Check out this video for reference: https://youtu.be/z2XUsBMz_1k?si=QBTk_3EpyQQhzCuE

Do slides come with it?

For a permanent trailer, it’s best to seal the sides externally, establish a crawl space, and insulate from below with Rockwood.
This method could result in achieving an r30 insulation value.

Padding or flooring alterations won’t affect the insulation or heat retention in the unit.
Avoid experimenting with slides, as it may disrupt their functionality and harm the flooring.
