That’s a cool tip! But keep in mind, that’s a typical overlay face frame hinge. The screw holes might not align perfectly, but the cup hole remains the same. I think most hinge manufacturers have a version that would be compatible.
You’re absolutely right. The true benefit is that you won’t need to purchase new hinges.
Nice suggestion! You could also use regular door hinges to adjust the gap between the door and the jamb, also known as packing out the hinges.
