Looking for advice on tiling my new kitchen island bench top with terrazzo mosaic tiles – do I need bench brackets and how should I do the edges with edge trim?
Looking for some ideas and advice, if you don’t mind! I’m in the process of tiling a new kitchen island bench top and I’m following the instructions of a kitchen professional who recommended using villaboard. I’ve picked out a terrazzo mosaic tile that I really like. The dimensions of my island are 1800*900, which will be going on top of my 1200*800 island.
I have a couple of questions:
1. Should I use bench brackets for support?
2. How should I handle the edges?
– I’m thinking of using rounded edge trim. Should it go between the villaboard and the tile, or should it wrap around the villaboard as well? If it goes in between, how should I finish the villaboard?
I appreciate your help! I’m really looking forward to this project, just trying to nail down a few final details before I dive in. I can provide pictures of the tile, proposed edging, and the original kitchen island top if needed. My plan is to remove the existing top, install the villaboard on the cabinet base, and then lay the tile.
My suggestion is to avoid it! Tile countertops never quite look the way you want.
Had few options due to the small scale of the project. It was challenging to get kitchen or stone professionals to come out and provide a quote. Despite reaching out to various places via phone and email, there was no success.
An anonymous participant recommended going to a countertop store and requesting a remnant piece. Many places will provide a piece of that size, and you only need to pay for cutting and polishing to fit your needs. After that, you can install it yourself.
