Has anyone ever painted aluminum railings/spindles or rescreened a porch before? I’m thinking about tackling this project in the next month. I’ve done some initial research on the best methods, but I would love to hear from anyone who has some experience with this. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!
Simple, just make sure to start with the right primer.
Absolutely! Do you have a particular one in mind that you believe is superior to the rest?
Just to clarify, I don’t have any experience with this, but as long as it indicates it’s suitable for aluminum, you should be fine.
Yes, utilize commercial spray primer and paint. I can’t remember the brand, but there is a plastic snap system that connects to the structure. Snap the top rail onto your screen and continue down, snapping the simple cover to secure it in place.
I’ll make sure to find it, appreciate the advice!
Hey, check out this photo of one I worked on.
Is looking great!
Just keeping it basic and straightforward. 👍
I remember seeing latex primer for aluminum at either Lowe’s or Home Depot.
There is a flat plastic and metal channel designed to be used on 4×4 wood or any vertical post to enclose a porch with screening. It’s known as screen tight. Just do a quick google search. I have it on my porch and it even comes with an option for a snap cover to give it a polished finish.
Thanks for the info, ! I’ll look into it. Thanks for your help!
Thank you for the assistance so far! I have a couple more questions.
1. Do I need to apply an acid etch primer and/or conversion coating? The aluminum railings are in good condition – no rust and just a few scratches from normal use. Also, should I use a top coat sealer? Polyurethane or Polycrylic?
2. Is it worth investing in a paint sprayer? Or would a brush/roller be just as effective?
I really appreciate your help!
