Is this excessive junction box necessary or just overkill in appearance?

Is this a really large junction box? It seems a bit excessive, don’t you think?
Might be an old panel that’s no longer being used. I moved mine and now the old one acts as a junction box. Just be sure it has a cover. If it’s a door, at least in my area, it needs to be securely shut and labeled as a junction box only.
It looks like this used to be an old sub-panel that was changed into a JB. You can tell where the bus bars were installed. And don’t forget, if there’s a door, make sure it’s properly locked.
It seems like an old-school enclosure, right? Just a JB.
That’s a 60A 240v disconnect switch that has been taken apart and repurposed for a junction box. Pretty rough, huh?
Originally an Intermatic Timer box, now repurposed as a junction box.
So, what do you think is on the cover? It might have been a breaker or switch in the past. But now, it’s a pretty large junction box.
It definitely is, but most likely it was just there and ready to be used, so it ended up becoming a large junction box.
Yeah, it was different before. Then it got an upgrade or some changes and turned into a j-box.
