Is this antenna even necessary for TV in a world where most people no longer use it?

What’s the purpose of this thing? So, since it’s for a TV antenna, which most people don’t use nowadays, should we just cover it up with a blank cover or drywall?
Original antenna
Hooked up to a TV antenna on the roof. 300 twin lead connection. That’s what we used before switching to 75 ohm coaxial cable. There might be coaxial cable behind it if it was part of a master antenna system.

Like others mentioned, antenna wire. Although, it’s not effective for modern digital signals. If there’s coaxial cable behind it, it’s probably rg59 with various splits throughout the house. Essentially, it’s not useful with today’s technology.
I would put up drywall.
Try using a Cali patch or utilizing the chase for the cat6 cable
Switch it out for a sturdy cover
Seems like you’re already working on something there. You might want to take out the plate/box, patch the drywall, and be done with it.
Use a blank cover. You never know when it might come in handy.
No electricity and not hooked up to anything. Just cover it with drywall.
