Is there a temporary solution to seal the downspout connecting parts before the upcoming heavy rainfall?

Hey there! We’ve had quite a bit of rain lately and I noticed that water is shooting out of the joints in the downspout. Sorry for the fuzzy video. Do you have any advice on a temporary fix to seal it up? We’re expecting more rain for the next few days. I’ll call in the pros if it gets worse. Thanks!

I have a feeling that the downspout is clogged. I suggest clearing it out first if necessary 👍🏼

The issue isn’t with sealing the joints, the water is actually flowing back due to a blockage. You might want to consider snaking the downspout, possibly underground, to remove the blockage.

Looks like your downspout is clogged….clear it out and the water should start flowing. Best of luck! 👍

Thanks everyone!

You should use a correct V connector for that connection

In most cases, downspouts don’t have to be completely water-tight. If the downspout is leading to a clog (possibly underground), even if you seal it completely, the water might just collect higher in the downspout and overflow from the top.

The top piece was installed incorrectly; it should fit inside the next piece below it.

Disregard my previous comment, upon further inspection, it seems that it was actually installed correctly. My mistake!

It’s probably that the side piece is too far in, causing a restriction. You’ll need to correct that.
