Is there a magical tip for removing carpet tacks, or am I stuck using my crowbar to tear out the old yucky carpet in my new house?

I just purchased this house and we’re getting rid of the gross old carpet. Any tips for removing those pesky carpet tacks? Or am I resigned to using my crowbar? Thanks!

Flat scraper pole idk the technical term. Hit it hard on the tack when you’re going under the wood and most of the time you’ll bust it out. But if you miss them you can go back with a hammer and just pop them out afterwards. I just did this last week. This was the last corner of my entire apartment of carpet, so I was too tired to bash the tacks. 😂

Seems like it

I preferred using a paint scraper to slide underneath and tapping it gently. And then using a crowbar to finish the job.

I liked using a paint scraper and tapping it underneath. Then finishing the job with a crowbar.

I went with a butter knife and a hammer 😂 and surprisingly it worked like a charm!

I used a butter knife and a hammer 😂 got right next to the nail and it pops up so much easier !

I relied on a prybar and it worked wonders. By applying some force, I could easily wedge it next to or on the nail, push down, and pop it right off.

Upon reviewing the post, I actually used a staple remover for the staples. It was a great investment

I opted for the flat end

I attached a scraper blade to a sawzall. With 25 years of experience in hardwood floors, this method works best. Check it out at https://a.co/d/0cRB8wX

Maybe consider using a small jackhammer with a flat blade or a hammer drill on a low setting?

If you don’t have a large metal bar to slide across the floor to push into the nails and pop them out, try using a 3″ cold chisel. Place it where the nails are and give it a hit with a hammer – the nail will pop out. You can also do this with a hammer by sliding it across the floor and aiming for the nail head until it pops. ood luck!

Hey Jeffrey, remember to take a breather! 😂

Evan Gutierrez

Haha why don’t you relax and take a breather

Is simply noting that you forgot to include any periods at the end of your sentences.

I opted for a flat shovel to get most of them out. For the ones I missed, I used an old screwdriver and pliers. Finished off by using a magnetic floor sweeper to collect the staples

I cut the carpet into 3 or 4 foot sections, roll it up, and tape it. Then I grab a flat scraper to remove the staples and start taking out the tack strips

I would suggest using a wonder bar. Make sure to remove ALL the nails! https://www..com/marketplace/item/433267262771345/?referralSurface=messenger_lightspeed_banner&referralCode=messenger_banner

I usually use a flat scraper pole, not sure of the technical term. I hit it firmly on the tack when sliding under the wood, usually it pops out. If not, I go back with a hammer to finish the job. I actually did this last week, it was in the final corner of my whole apartment so I was too exhausted to put in a lot of effort. 😂

Make your life easier by getting some end nippers and a flat screwdriver, people!

Martin Arnold

Make sure to get a wonder bar and a small piece of thin wood to avoid scratching the floor. You mentioned “tacks” – I assume you meant nails.

Martin Arnold

For removing tackless strips, consider using a wonder bar. ‘t forget to use a wood block to protect the floor. You can also explore bars of different sizes at your local home center.

Karen Morris

‘t forget to wear a MASK😷!
