Is the leaking shower handle caused by an aging cartridge or outdated valve, and do you have any recommendations for fixing it?

Hey, so the old shower handle is leaking at the knob and under the plate. Do you think it’s because the cartridge is old, or maybe the valve? Any ideas for fixing it?

You can try replacing the internal components of the handle, as there are o rings that can deteriorate over time. Your handle most likely has a rubber grommet that fits into the back. You could either look for new components or replace the entire handle and diverter.

Hey , the only plumbing term you got right was ‘diverter’. The rest was a bit off. Oh, are you related to bumbling Joe?

Most likely, yes. If it’s not a leak in the supply line, it could be the cartridge that needs to be replaced.

Hey , are you talking about the supply line for a shower faucet, not a lavatory faucet?

Share a photo of the valve you’re talking about and someone might be able to offer a suggestion 🤷🏻‍♂️

Margot Henry

Absolutely, the type of surface will impact how the replacement is done.

Hey, can you take a photo with your latest potato in the shower for us to see?

Lucas Moore

Sure
