Is securing a loose and squeaky board on a recently replaced deck as simple as tightening a screw, and is a special bit needed for the job?

Hey everyone, quick question for you. Just had my deck redone and found a board that’s loose and squeaky. I attached a video for reference. Would tightening the screw fix this issue? And if so, do I need a specific bit for it? Thanks in advance!

Yeah, you might want to give it a little twist. The joists likely contracted a bit as they dried out. It’s just a regular torx bit, maybe t25 or t20

Use a T-15 bit to secure it in place. Use a drill with low power to prevent the screw from breaking

Thank you very much!

I used the same screws and they became loose after a year. I simply tightened them again. They appeared fine this year. Some had torx heads while others had square heads for some unknown reason

It’s possible that if the deck stringers were taped properly, the tape might compress slightly after the initial installation. Or it could simply be the wood shrinking. Like others mentioned, just make sure to tighten it down gently.
