Is removing the under stair closet wall to create a nook area for my daughter’s toys a difficult task?

Has anyone ever removed the wall in the closet under the stairs to create a cozy nook space? Is it a big project? I was thinking it would be a perfect spot for my daughter to store her toys.
I’m interested in this project too! Planning to do something similar in my own basement.
You might consider adding built-ins instead of flooring.
That’s how it was initially constructed. I believe it was built with the cutouts, and the wooden pieces were added later.
I bet removing the wall under your stairs wouldn’t be too difficult since it’s not load-bearing. I would start by taking out the closet wall to check how the stairs are constructed underneath.
Yes, I absolutely adore it! 😊
Was it a big project with a lot of changes?
Valerie Mariah, it wasn’t a ton of work. Just be sure there’s no wiring or plumbing behind where you cut. Then frame it, put up drywall, paint, and add trim. I chose to include the small niches, and that ended up being quite challenging! 😂
What are your thoughts on that ceiling?
Recently my husband and I set it up in our walkout basement makeover. I had several reasons for picking it, and it’s perfect for that area.
Oh, we actually put in something similar when we renovated a rental. I really like the industrial vibe!
This is great!
Thank you!
Yeah, it does look a bit awkward.
Definitely! We currently have a bench in that spot where we keep all our entryway items, but I think we can make better use of the space.
Valerie Mariah I’m excited to see how you’ll use it!
Considering the location of the door, that’s probably where the headspace will be for the basement stairs. Unless I’m mistaken.
Hey, that space over there is like a weird triangle closet. If we were to remove it, I’d prefer to leave the front as a closet and have the rest open for our 2-year-old to store toys.
Valerie Mariah’s closet, not a stairwell?
Closet. There’s a clothing rack in the front and storage space in the back.
That railing design is really unique. It looks pretty cool!
Hey , thanks a bunch!
Hey Valerie Mariah, did you happen to cover the spindle and railings? I’m really interested in how you did that. I might give it a shot on my staircase.
I believe the original design included the cut outs first, and then the wood pieces were added later.
I’ve come across dog kennels that are built into the furniture.
Yes, we did! We turned it into the kids’ area.
The entire space is currently a closet with walls and carpet. The closet is awkward and has unused space. I was considering cutting it after the outlet to create a normal-sized hallway closet.
It’s definitely a lot of work, but the end result is totally worth it for both looks and practicality.
A great deal. ‘A lot’ is not a single word.
It really just depends on the way your stairs were built.
There are bookcases extending up to the railing, while below there’s a bench with cushioned seating attached to a storage compartment.
Any construction project can become overwhelming if you’re not prepared. So make sure to do your research before diving in!!! I am considering something similar to this…
