Is it safe to skim coat the ceiling if the ladder is sturdy and doesn’t move, or should I ask before attempting?

I’m thinking about skim coating the rest of this ceiling. Do you think it’s safe to do so? I want to make sure before I give it a shot. The ladder seems stable and the ceiling looks sturdy, but I’m curious if anyone has tried this with a similar setup before.

‘t worry, just go for it

It might be a good idea to have someone spot you, just in case

Try using a wallboard running from the landing to the ladder. The ladder is secure enough, but the closer you get to the top, the more support you’ll need from the wall. It might be tough to reach everything up there

Sure, go ahead and grab an expanding plank to shoot yourself to the top of the stairs

If you ever need to, you can flip the ladder upside down as you go up the stairs

Absolutely, and you can use an extension ladder higher up on the stairs to reach the remaining area. I usually put together a three or four-step platform, taking into account the staircase dimensions. It might be five steps depending on the ladder’s size.

I had some drywall finishers in Chicago place one end of the 2×12 on the window sill in the two-story foyer, and the other end at the top of the stairs on top of 4 boxes (yes, boxes) of joint compound. Not buckets, but boxes. If you haven’t seen one, they are about 14″x14″x14″ boxes of joint compound.
