Hey guys, do you think it’s possible to paint a rusty chrome grate instead of having to buy a new one?
If you remove the chrome first, then yes. However, if you keep the chrome, the paint might peel off.
Sure, there are a few choices. You could use a rust remover, or opt for rust reformer paints before applying chrome. It all depends on the extent of the damage and what can be saved.

After scrubbing it with a wire brush and water, you can proceed to paint it.
I smoothed mine with sandpaper and then applied enamel spray paint.
We decided to try out rust reformer paint on some rusty items. If you’re fine with a different color instead of chrome, it’s worth considering.
