Is it necessary to paint doors before hanging to ensure complete coverage and protection from installation damage, or is it just standard practice?

When you’re putting up solid and hollow doors, make sure to cut them to fit the openings. I’ve heard conflicting opinions on whether to paint them before or after hanging. Some say it’s a good idea to do one coat before hanging to cover all the hard-to-reach spots, like the top and bottom and around the hinges. Then you can do another coat after installation to touch up any scratches or dings. Is this the common practice? And do you think that first coat before hanging is really crucial? Thanks for your input!

Make sure to prime all 6 sides before hanging them and then apply the finishing coat.

In my opinion, we prefer to hang all the doors first and then do the painting. We opt for pre-primed doors as well. The painters handle the rest.

We usually prefer to prime and apply one coat on the outside, especially when there are a lot of doors, like five or more.
