Someone is bringing home additional wire to sell for scrap.
I notice a ton of waste around here.
Doesn’t waste anything if it’s beer money.
The excess wire will extend from the meter to the disconnect.
Haha, always have to find a way to overcome obstacles.
That seems like a significant amount of waste
There is literally 4 feet of extra wire, and the run could be 500 feet long. I always make sure to have at least 10 feet extra for each panel on long runs.
I agree.
Is it better to have a little extra “waste” or risk coming up short and having to redo the entire run?
I used to do cable TV communication work before diving into electrical work full time. One time, we were pulling in a 750 cable run – heavy duty coax with a solid aluminum jacket. The run was about a thousand feet long, and we had around 30 feet left on each end. I mentioned to my boss that we wasted about 50 feet of cable. He then asked me an interesting question: if you need 1000 feet of cable but pull in 1020 feet, how much cable did you waste? I answered 20 feet, of course. Then he asked, if you need 1000 feet but only pull in 999 feet, how much cable did you waste? That lesson always stuck with me.
Exactly
You’re worried about the waste. what about all the pvc that will turn black from the sun in 3 months. just trash.
I’m not even concerned about the waste. You clearly missed my point. I often install pvc outdoors when requested by the customer or if the specifications allow it. It’s evident to me that very few people on these pages have knowledge about the electrical industry. Everyone seems to believe that everything is either cost plus or specified work.
Could have used a few more feet on a loop in the jbox.
Oh those low voltage guys and their loops 😂
If this is what puts a strain on your finances your profit margins are too slim
You clearly can’t read either, .
What am I missing here, ?
What do you think about maintaining a distance of 6 feet from the window???
I have never heard of it. I guess it depends on the power company; it definitely isn’t in the NEC.
Yes, it is.
I spoke with a state inspector on Friday about a total meter loop change out, and the windows were only 7 feet apart, so I couldn’t follow the 6 feet from the window rule on this old house. He mentioned he would make some adjustments.
Mentioned in an article that I have to be six feet away from a window, but I will wait with the meter.
I only found a 3-foot long one.
Believes what the inspector says is true, but I’ve come across many inspectors who didn’t have a clue about what they were looking at.
I haven’t had time to search for it because we’re working long days, but I’ve noticed other electricians displaying it near the electrical service meters. Plus, the state inspector we rely on hasn’t let me down yet.
Just a heads up, we can’t place the meter under the windows here in Virginia. It has to be right next to them all day, just not underneath.
Is not present in Louisiana and possibly in other states as well, as I have noticed other electricians posting the same thing.
No content
Is there no slip fitting available for the lateral conduit meter?
It’s always better to be long than to be wrong
There seems to be a lot of complaints about the wire. Why didn’t they opt for 2- lb$? And what’s with all the boxes???
Was actually thinking the same thing
Is likely attempting to cover up the explosion. Check out the top right corner of the left 12×12.
Can’t fit the wired in the LB.
Does it really work that way? If it fits in a connector, it fits in an LB? Haha
I’m willing to bet they drilled the hole from the inside. lol
