Have they done the rough inspection yet? Make sure to remove all the boards and insulation for a thorough inspection.
Once told me a story from a commercial job site where they got ahead of themselves and put up rock before the inspector approved it. They ended up having to tear it back down.
I worked with an owner-builder on a big remodel about twenty years ago. They did the framing, drywall, and painting before bringing me in to do the wiring. I explained that it would be time and materials from this point on unless they removed all the drywall. Owner-builders can be challenging to work with for this reason.
Suggests using surface mount EMT or MC if they are looking to save money and finish quickly.
It’s interesting because thought it wouldn’t match the decor since it was residential.
Isn’t it wild how these folks were pretty smart and accomplished, yet they didn’t think to double-check the order of operations?
‘s issue arises when they reach a point of thinking they know it all.
I can’t stand it when sheet rockers just slap up Sheetrock on one side of the wall right after putting up the studs. It makes it a pain to install boxes and brackets all wonky and backwards.
The studs are mostly in place to secure the lock-in studs and prevent them from being pulled off the wall. I get what you’re saying though. Fiddling with wrap-arounds or f clips can be a pain.
They should screw the studs from both sides to make everyone’s job easier.
Scheduling shouldn’t revolve solely around arts and crafts trades.
I’m going to start using that term too
Haha same here 😅😂
It’s funny, but also not funny. 😂
During a site meeting, a sprinkler fitter named said that, and it has always stuck with me.
That is absolutely epic 🤣🤣🤣
It appears that this is a problem across the whole country. The foolish leaders believe it saves time and money
Nothing positive ever results from that
That’s exactly what’s going on where I am, and the frames aren’t even the same size. I keep hitting studs and end up having to redo the work, but they still expect ‘productivity’. 🤦♂️😂
Is cutting 12″ squares and putting in the box at the center. They’ll have to patch up later anyway, so why complicate things?
‘s currently handling conduit installation. It’s a whole story to get into here.. 😂
Oh, so it’s not exactly “the same as the op” as you mentioned. 😉 😅
Facing a similar issue, just a different challenge
Thank you! Some people just looking for loopholes in someone’s perspective.
Yeah I do that too, it’s nice to return the favor sometimes. Lol
Remember, always stay on top of the job, don’t let it overwhelm you
They will definitely learn once I make contact with the drywall.
That’s when things get serious.
Top-notch job security
No worries, even if the schedule is completely off, the blame will still fall on the ‘lazy workers’ and ‘incompetent help’ rather than the project owner who ‘couldn’t deliver’.
The prime minister who clearly doesn’t grasp the complexities of piping, cable racks, or construction in general 😆
Just and only:
, the prime minister who clearly doesn’t grasp the complexities of piping, cable racks, or construction in general 😆
Ot to stick to the timetable. Want that paycheck? ot to meet deadlines
First day, I suppose. Pretty usual. Lots of ways to keep up with it
Tradesmen don’t receive enough appreciation these days.
Piece working drywallers and tapers are undervalued and deserve more recognition.
Can you believe that?!
Mike avros is really enjoying this.
They did an amazing job at one of our facilities by redoing the electrical work on the first floor without any pipes. Our electricians were able to start hammering the Sheetrock from the height of the switch all the way up to the finished ceiling. After completing the work, they billed the contractor for their services.
Would have definitely made them reveal the work, no doubt about it.
Why don’t they just check with us before scheduling the next trade?
They should definitely do that for every trade! 😅 ather someone from each step at the same table to coordinate schedules.
It’s even more awesome when spray foam insulation is part of the equation.
That supervisor is doing a terrible job
Hey , that’s a supervisor who wasn’t able to bring his own electrician for the job.
On one side of things
I never allow them to pull that one-sided trick, but if you fall behind schedule, you won’t have a legal leg to stand on. So, make sure to stay on track. If they are trying to Sheetrock before the scheduled time, remember that you have a contract that prohibits it. You can always involve the inspector if they attempt to work on both sides of the walls. Luckily, I didn’t have to deal with this situation on a previous project because our special order MC got stolen right after delivery. However, the general contractor had the authority to work on both sides of the walls, so we ended up having to charge time and material to fix everything on two floors. Man, thanks for reminding me about that project! 😂
Couldn’t you have done single drops with junctions above grid? Was it that green stuff by chance🤣
No it was the white super neutral MC back when we used to share neutrals. It had a 90 day lead time and our MC got impounded as evidence and we couldn’t get it back in time. We did end up single dropping a lot of it and it sucked to do it later on a college lab building with as many devices in rooms as a hospital but we got it done despite much dismay for the general. The main general ended up falling into an elevator shaft and shattering his leg, which sucks, but we only kinda felt bad for him after making our lives hell for 2 years
Sorry, I’m unable to provide the original text to be rephrased. Could you please provide the text for me to work on?
That’s totally me when they spring a full rewire from knob and tube on a lath and plaster house. 80% of the time, they end up tearing down the walls “later”. It’s strange.
Haha, this actually happened to me. I had to install round boxes and mc cables in the ceiling, but the carpenters had already covered them the day before. So my boss gave me a sawzall and 3 batteries, and I cut 12″x12″ squares where I needed to install the boxes.
Either patch it up or hatch a new plan 🤷♂️🤣
Hey, , can you give the inspectors a call? If there’s no inspection, they won’t be able to board. The inspectors would require them to take the board down.
New York City doesn’t require rough inspections
That is just astonishing.
I can’t believe that… the eneral Contractor can handle it…
New York City seems to exist in its own little world.
Why even have inspectors then? Do they only come in at the end to make sure everything functions? But there could be issues hidden behind walls or ceilings.
Sheetrockers may be in the carpenters union, but they are not considered carpenters.
Haha, this meme is kind of misleading. You’ve underestimated the power-tripping inspector. But go ahead and put up the sheet rock.
In my experience, it’s usually the worker employed by the general contractor who makes that decision. Often, the general contractor appoints a superintendent who takes orders from someone in the main office.

Never enough time to fit everything in the schedule
I heard from a few folks about how much money they made in stock trading with Mrs. Damaris’ help, so I decided to give it a shot. And it’s true! She helped me earn a nice profit. ‘t rely solely on your current income – you can see results too! Take a chance and message Mrs. Damaris Ava.
Dealing with that nonsense currently, not scheduling an inspection until I’m prepared, not the drywallers. eneral contractor needs to prioritize correctly!
It’s funny how it always seems to fall on the electrician when things go wrong haha
This happened to me once in a high-end condo that I had to rewire. The general contractor had the drywallers double up on almost every wall, but thankfully they hadn’t taped it yet. My helper and I spent the entire day carefully taking down each sheet and saving every screw so it looked like it was never even put up. It was such a waste of time, and needless to say, those guys were not happy.
😂
‘t worry, the painter will take care of it haha
She will pick up on it.
Follow the inspector’s guidance and remove everything as requested due to a missed wall inspection.
During subcontractor meetings, inspectors used to remind us not to tape any drywall until they inspected the screw pattern for the fire rating. It was a common occurrence. If there was a sheet rocker present, they would always respond with “Si Si”. The sheet rockers would work diligently to have the fire-rated sheets installed and taped by Monday morning. However, inspectors would often request removal of the second sheet for inspection. It’s a pattern that seems to repeat on every job site.
I remember this one time at a custom home I was working on, they had already spray foamed and drywalled before I even received the plans for it.
A great way to get beat up is to mess around and find out.
